Sony has officially confirmed that it has launched a new update for the PlayStation 3 home console. The firmware update is still called 3.41, which might confuse some users as the firmware was officially launched last week by the hardware manufacturer. Since then one significant issue surfaced linked to it and Sony has updated the firmware so that those who have problems will see them fixed.

An official blog post from the European Sony blog reads, “we are aware of the symptoms with the system software update 3.41, released on July 27, and that it will cause the update to stop in some occasions while replacing the PlayStation 3 (PS3) Hard Disk Drive (HDD) if the PS3 system is installed with version 3.41.” The company goes on to apologize for any problems it might have caused and urges those who have issues to try out the new version of firmware 3.41 and report back if their PlayStation 3 home consoles are still refusing to update properly.

Sony has big plans in the near future for its main hardware product. The PlayStation 3 is the first home console after the Nintendo Wii to get a motion tracking console, with the Move peripheral arriving during September. The company says that it's solution will be cheaper than the equivalent from Microsoft, the Kinect that arrives in November, and that it will offer more accurate tracking that the Nintendo Wii. The company is also putting out a number of titles that use Move, the usual mini game collections and sports games. One big hardcore title that used Move, SOCOM 4 from Zipper Interactive, has been delayed until 2011.

As well as working on motion tracking Sony is really interested in pushing three dimensional gaming to the PlayStation 3, preferably in conjunction with the Bravia line of television sets that the company is manufacturing.
