Sony's latest mirrorless cameras as well as a few of the recently announced bridge camera models are compatible with a wide range of camera apps released by the Nippon manufacturer through its PlayMemories website.

Recently, Sony announced a new update for a few of its camera apps, including Time-lapse, Multiple Exposure, Lens Compensation, Smart Remote Control, Picture Effect+, and Photo Retouch. The new versions don't bring any fresh features to these apps but, instead, improve overall stability with the supported camera models.

For those unacquainted with these PlayMemories camera apps, let's take a quick look at what each of them can do when installed on your Sony camera.

Time-lapse is a simple utility that can be used to create stunning time-lapse videos. The application will allow you to set up the camera to shoot multiple images at the desired interval of time. Moreover, the app will automatically choose the proper settings and combine all the photos into a movie without you having to do it all by yourself.

Multiple Exposure is another application developed by Sony, which allows you to create beautiful composite images using multiple exposures. The utility will automatically choose the optimum settings for your composition and comes with seven themes: Manual, Easy silhoutte, Mirror, Texture, Sky, Rotate, and Soft Filter.

With Lens Compensation you can manually create lens profiles to instantly correct peripheral shading, chromatic aberrations, and distortion that will be applied when shooting with specific lenses.

If you want to control your camera from your smartphone, Smart Remote Control is the perfect app that can help you achieve that. It gives you control over exposure and shutter release directly from your smart device.

Finally, the Picture Effect+ and Photo Retouch apps will allow you to creatively edit your photos directly inside the camera by adding effects or using various editing tools. All the above-mentioned camera apps are available for download from the Sony PlayMemories portal.
