Sony is preparing new Xperia smartphones for launch at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, later this month.

The company announced such plans even before the Consumer Electronics Show was over in Las Vegas last month, and is now touting new smartphones for launch in roughly three weeks.

There will be more than one Xperia handset launched at the event, the invitation that Sony sent out to the press suggests (this emerged over at Phandroid).

Some of the latest reports on the matter suggested that Sony might launch handsets such as Xperia Pepper or the newly spotted Xperia Sola at the MWC, but no confirmation has emerged so far.

At CES, Sony launched two new Android devices in the Xperia family, namely the Xperia ion and the Xperia S. The former was announced with LTE connectivity on AT&T’s network.
