Over the weekend rumors about the permanent cancellation of The Last Guardian have surfaced online and Sony has now confirmed that the game is still in development and will appear eventually for some of its platforms.

The Last Guardian was presented way back in 2010 as the next ambitious project from Sony's Team Ico, the same studio responsible for cult hits like Shadow of the Colossus or Ico. The title was confirmed for a PS3 release but, shortly after that, no other details were revealed.

Over the years, there have been a few problems at Team Ico, but Sony has refrained from offering any comments about The Last Guardian, saying only that it will make an announcement when the time is right.

Over the weekend, rumors about the cancellation of The Last Guardian have appeared online, confirming that Sony has pulled the plug on the whole project.

As you can imagine, this led to a huge uproar in the community and Sony's Scott Rohde, the PlayStation Software Product Development Head for Sony Worldwide Studios, has revealed on Twitter that the rumor is false and that The Last Guardian hasn't been cancelled.

No other details have been offered and it's unsure whether Sony will say something about The Last Guardian at its E3 2014 press conference later today, June 9.
