The update will come soon, but we don’t know exactly when

Sony might have entered the Android 5.0 Lollipop dimension through the back door, but once the company began unleashing its updates, it apparently became very hard to stop.

Not so long ago, the Japanese phone maker started rolling out the upgrade for the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact, and a few days later the same treatment was applied to the Xperia Z3 Tablet, Z3 Tablet Compact and Xperia Z2 handset.

After the initial rollout, we were wondering which devices would be next in line to receive the new Lollipop update. We got half an answer a while ago, when Sony confirmed that the Xperia C3 and Xperia T2 Ultra would be updated as well, at some point.

Interestingly enough, an earlier report had mentioned that Sony would only bring the Xperia Z lineup of smartphones and tablets to the new version of the operating system, but it appears the company has changed its mind and is attempting to make everybody happy.

Sony promises the Xperia Z will be updated soon

The Sony Xperia Z lineup still has some handsets that need to be updated, like the original Xperia Z, for example.

The good news is that Sony plans to update this model to Android 5.0 Lollipop soon enough, and to prove that, the company has shown an image of the phone running the specific build with the promise “Coming Soon.”

There’s still no word on whether the Xperia Z1 handset is also scheduled to receive the new build, but we have to assume that this will indeed happen around the same time as the update for Xperia Z. Or maybe not, we can’t tell you for sure at this point.

The original Xperia Z smartphone was launched back in 2013 and arrived with a 5-inch display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution (441 ppi).

The phone employed the processing power of a Qualcomm MDM9215M / APQ8064 CPU working in concert with Adreno 320 GPU, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable to 64GB).

The handset shipped out with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, but it subsequently received the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update.

Apart from working on Lollipop updates for its smartphone/tablet host, Sony is also striving towards bringing the Xperia Z4 flagship onto the market. The phone is supposed to be another Snapdragon 810-powered flagship arriving with either QHD or FHD display.
