Photokina is one of the biggest photography-related events of the year and, even if the happening is still a few months away, scheduled in September, rumors about what products we’re going to be seeing there are making the rounds already.

A new rumor propagated by SonyAlphaRumors, which talked to one of its anonymous sources, claims that Sony is cooking up something really exciting to put on display at Photokina. But we are warned to take this information with a grain of salt, as the source isn't always reliable.

Anyway, moving on to the actual piece of information, Sony is apparently gearing up to launch one new Full Frame E-mount camera at the event.

By the looks of it, this device will not be part of the A9 or A7 series, but will be a full frame NEX-5 alike camera coming with no built-in EVF. Most importantly, the device will probably win the hearts of customers thanks to the relatively moderate price tag of $1,000 / €732.

Considering this, the new camera would compete in – and at some point cannibalize – the APS-C market. It would also be the thinnest FF camera ever made.

Other details weren't revealed about the purported optic, but it seems Sony applied a patent for such a design last year. So let’s keep our fingers crossed.
