Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile has announced the availability of a new firmware release for the owners of Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, and Xperia ZR devices out there, providing them with a variety of enhancements.

Pushed out as build number 10.4.1.B.0.101, the new software update is meant to improve the Bluetooth connectivity on these devices, while also offering better battery life.

Moreover, it comes with enhancements to the YouTube application on these phones, as well as with other improvements, the available release notes unveil.

The update is available for download both via the PC Companion and over-the-air, Sony Mobile also announced. However, those who will go for the OTA update are advised to download it over a Wi-Fi network, so as to ensure that no additional charges occur.

Users can manually check on the availability of the new software through going to Settings > About phone > Software updates > System updates.

They can verify whether the release has been successfully installed or not through checking the version number in Settings > About phone > Build number / version.

One thing that should be noted, however, is the fact that the new firmware will roll out in stages, which means that some users will receive it at a later date.

“You may already have the latest software, depending on the date of purchase. Software updates are released at different times depending on operator and/or country. Therefore, we cannot give you an exact date for when a specific update will be available for your device,” Sony notes.

The new release is based on the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system, though it should not be too long before Sony decides to push the Android 4.4 KitKat update to these devices.

Those who would like to learn more on the update should head over to Sony Mobile’s website for that.
