Japanese mobile phone maker Sony has officially confirmed the availability of a new firmware version for the owners of three of its Xperia handsets out there, namely the Xperia T, Xperia TX, and Xperia V.

Several days ago, the new build started to appear on Xperia TX models in Hong Kong, but no info from Sony was unveiled on the matter.

However, the company has since updated the product pages for all of the aforementioned handsets to reveal that the new firmware version is being deployed to users worldwide.

According to the mobile phone maker, the new update is designed to provide users with an updated overall experience, as well as with various software performance improvements. Moreover, it also brings better battery life to these devices, the available changelog unveils.

Basically, as XperiaBlog notes, this update is destined mainly to fix some of the issues previously found on said devices, thus resulting in improved overall performance and smoothness.

Moreover, the news site also reports that the update is now live on all three devices, at least this is what the Xperia Update Checker unveiled.

The new firmware 9.2.A.1.199 for Xperia T, Xperia TX, and Xperia V is based on the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system, which has started to roll out to them only several weeks back.

Users interested in checking the software version on their smartphones should head over to Settings > About phone > Build number / version. Should the firmware version listed there be lower than the new one, they should be looking to update.

Before kicking off the process, however, they might consider backing up all data on their handsets, just to ensure that no important files are lost during the installation.

The update should not influence user files and applications on these phones, but taking some extra safely measures won’t hurt, that’s for sure.

At the same time, the owners of said three devices should ensure that the battery inside them has been charged at least at 50 percent before starting the update process.

One thing that should be noted here is the fact that Sony is usually delivering new updates in phases, which means that some users might not see the new firmware as available right from the start. It could take days or weeks for it to arrive, so be patient.

On its website, Sony also notes that it is currently investigating the possible release of Android 4.4 KitKat for Xperia T, TX, and V, yet there’s no telling on whether it will actually make the new platform upgrade available for them or not.
