Today, Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile has announced its financial results for the third quarter of its financial year 2013, and unveiled that it managed to sell 10.7 million handsets in the timeframe.

The figure represents an increase when compared to the 10.0 million smartphones sold during the previous three-month period.

However, Sony now expects for its full year sales of Xperia devices to be of only 40 million units, down from the 42 million announced before.

As XperiaBlog notes, this also means that Sony might not be able to ship more than 10 million Xperia devices during the first quarter of the calendar year 2014 (the company’s Q3 FY2013).

Apparently, Sony will not announce a new flagship handset during Q1 2014, though it will focus on its mobile business moving forth (the company also announced plans to sell the Vaio PC division).
