Today, Sony mobile officially announced the upcoming Sony SmartWatch 2 SW2, an advanced smartwatch that sports an Android app interface and a range of unique functions.

The new device is meant to prove a great companion for Sony’s Android devices, acting like a second screen, thus enhancing the mobile experience for all of its owners.

The new device also packs water resistance capabilities, as well as NFC connectivity, and offers support for a variety of SmartWatch apps that can enhance its capabilities.

Through Sony SmartWatch 2, users can perform a variety of actions that would otherwise require for them to reach for their smartphones, including:

- Handle your calls by a simple touch of your wrist - Take a photo remotely from your SmartWatch, using a smart camera app - Control your presentations remotely using Presentation Pal - Taking a run or on the bike? Select a mapping app on SmartWatch to check your route with a quick glance at your wrist - Read previously downloaded e-mails when not connected to your phone - Use lifestyle apps like Runtastic to map and instantly track your fitness activities on the go.

The device also enables users to easily adjust the tracks and volume on the music player running on their phones, even without taking the handset out of their pockets.

Not to mention that the SmartWatch 2 is robust enough to be used in different environments, courtesy of its water- and dust-resistant design.

“Sony is the proud leader in the smartwatch market since introducing our first Bluetooth watch in 2007,” says Stefan K Persson, head of companion products at Sony Mobile Communications.

“Competitors are only now launching first generation devices, while we are already launching a 3rd generation device with all the insight gained from over half a million customers combined with Sony’s wealth of technology expertise to create the best ever smartwatch experience.”

SmartWatch 2 allows for personalization with any standard 24mm wristband, as well as with new Sony watchstraps that are set to become available for purchase in the not too distant future.

Sony’s new SmartWatch 2 SW2 is set to become available for purchase all around the world starting with September 2013.
