Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile has just made official a new smartphone for the US market, namely the Xperia Z1s, which will hit shelves at T-Mobile soon, and info on another high-end device from the company has already started to emerge.

The phone is currently known under the codename of Sony Sirius, and new info on it suggests that we’ll see it made official at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month.

Previous reports suggested that the handset might be launched at CES 2014 in Las Vegas, but Sony did not make the move as of yet, and @evleaks suggests that we’ll have to wait one more month before this happens.

However, the device will certainly be worth waiting for, considering the fact that it is expected to arrive on shelves as the next flagship from the company.

Rumor has it that Sony will pack it with a 5.2-inch touchscreen display, one that might boast a 2k (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution.

At the same time, the upcoming smartphone is rumored to feature a quad-core Snapdragon 800 MSM8974AB processor inside, most probably paired with 2GB or 3GB of RAM.

Nothing has been confirmed on the matter as of now but, considering the specs list of the latest Xperia phones out there, it would not come as a surprise if the above panned out.

One other interesting tidbit about the forthcoming mobile phone is the fact that it will land in the United States on the network of Verizon Wireless.

The operator has a strong lineup of Android devices, and the release of a new flagship Xperia phone will certainly prove beneficial both for it and for Sony.

However, we’ll have to wait for the official announcement to arrive to learn more on Sony’s plans on this device, so keep an eye on this space for additional details on the matter.
