Sony is set to continue branding its other electronic devices with the PlayStation logo, as a new report cites that the Japanese company is preparing to unleash its first tablet, called the S1, which will receive support and content originally launched on PlayStation consoles.

Seeing as how Sony formally unveiled its two worst kept secrets, the Next Generation Portable (aka the PSP2) and the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play (aka the PlayStation Phone), brand new devices are being leaked right now.

According to a report from Engadget, Sony is getting ready to jump into the tablet market, and take on devices like Apple's iPad, Motorola's Xoom or Samsung's Galaxy Tab, with its own device, codenamed the S1.

A key role in this endeavor is set to be played by the company's PlayStation division, which will back up the new device in the same way as the Xperia Play mobile phone, making a full on gaming tablet.

As such, the Sony S1 will have access to the PlayStation Suite service, offering legacy PSone titles and dedicated games for Android-based mobile phones, as well as to a selection of other, more demanding titles.

What's more, it will come with a pre-installed game, as well as access to Sony's other services, including Qriosity, video on demand, Sony Music or its ebook store.

The same rumor also says that the S1 will be powered by the tablet-only Android 3.0 mobile operating system and has a 9.4-inch capacitive touchscreen with a 1280x800 resolution.

Other technical features include Nvidia's Tegra 2 graphics processor, front and rear-facing cameras as well as a unique form factor.

Instead of the regular tablet shape, the Sony S1 is set to sport a bulge on one side, similar to how an open magazine is folded backward upon itself.

This bulge is set to include the battery, which will shift its weight to either side in order to make it easier to hold than other tablets and simpler to read from if you place it on a flat surface.

According to the report, the Sony S1 with PlayStation branding is set to appear around September, for a price of around $599.
