Its announcements were leaked

Sony is one of the biggest companies involved in gaming, and, just like any other large corporation, saved up a lot of its big announcements for the Electronic Entertainment Expo, which was held a few weeks ago.

Sadly, a lot of those announcements were already leaked or highly rumored about long before the E3 expo started. Just look at the PSP Go! or at the motion-sensitive technology, which had been speculated on for quite some time. This made journalists present at the conference lose faith in the Japanese company.

This lack of confidentiality in the gaming industry made the Sony Computer Entertainment America boss, Jack Tretton, quite unhappy. He talked with CNBC and revealed that, because people were always thinking about tomorrow, and wanted to find out new things, secrets could hardly be kept at the time.

“People don't respect confidentiality in this industry,” Tretton said. “It's tough enough to keep a secret within your own company, much less when you speak to third parties. This is an industry that has trouble focusing on today. We want to constantly talk about tomorrow. You have to prepare for people to know things in advance. The frustrating thing is they only know a part of the story and that opens up a lot of conjecture and misinformation that ultimately waters down the reality when you roll it out.”

It's true that, because a lot of people were expecting a lot of announcements from the company, its press conference wasn't that exciting. Hopefully, individuals will take heed of the words from the Sony executive and keep their mouths shut until the time is appropriate to make official statements. But knowing the many ways through which developers and industry representatives can interact with the general public, such a thing won't happen anytime soon.
