A certain tablet that one might or might not easily remember has now become the subject of an official press release, what with its addition to AT&T's range of soon-to-be released products.

Sony's S2 tablet is one of those devices that hasn't yet come to market but which, courtesy of some leaks and even a video, has people speculating and eagerly looking forward to its arrival already.

In fact, the product hasn't even been fully detailed, meaning that little is known about it beyond the ARM-based Tegra 2 platform (from NVIDIA) and the pair of 5.5-inch displays, plus the obligatory network support.

Even the S2 is just a codename, one that will finally be replaced by an actual title once sales begin, later in the year (2011).

“With its unprecedented, completely portable form factor, the “Sony Tablet” S2 offers tablet enthusiasts a convenient and unique entertainment experience,” said David Haight, vice president of business development, AT&T emerging devices.

“Users will be treated to exceptional graphics and the touch-screen capabilities will enable a fast and efficient website experience.”

The press release says that the dual-display S2 will feature not just WiFi wireless connectivity, but also support for AT&T's 4G service.

The carrier will offer monthly data plans but has decided to hold off on distribution and pricing details for now.

“We’re pleased to be working with AT&T on yet another unique mobile device,” said Mike Lucas, senior vice president of Networked Technology and Services Division at Sony Electronics.

“AT&T provides the speed and coverage that are integral to the different features and functions of our tablet. We value our relationship as they share our commitment to growing the ‘Sony Tablet’ and the tablet market overall.”
