Sony thought it's time to add a new point-and-shoot digital camera to their Cyber-shot S series of digital cameras. Cyber-shot DSC-S800 leads the "S pack" with a 30 X smart zoom, raising the optical zoom to 6 x. Instead of the usual Carl Zeiss lens, it comes with Sony's own high-sensitivity lens.

The camera features an 1/1.8-inch Super HAD CCD tiny image sensor (a "stunning" 8.1 megapixels resolution), sensitivity rating up to 1250, 2.5-inch LCD monitor, Direct Playback mode, 56 MB of on-board shot storage, MSPro/ MSDuo compatibility. It also boasts the two-centimeter macro mode, 16:9 playback, PictBridge support, multi-language GUI support and a Motion JPEG video mode that's not going to impress anyone.

Here's a complete specs list:

-8.1 effective Megapixels -6 x optical zoom, 12 x digital zoom, up to 30 overall zoom -ISO 1250 high sensitivity (REI) for shooting in low-light situations -Large 2.5-inch (6.2cm) LCD screen -Silver full metal body -56MB internal memory -High quality Sony lens -2cm macro for close-up shooting -Easy operation with an on-screen function guide -16:9 mode for playback on a widescreen TV -Motion-JPEG (30 frames per second movie mode with audio) -PictBridge for direct connection to printer without need for PC -STAMINA battery life (up to 390 shots) -In box: 2 NiMH AA batteries, charger, AV&USB cables, wrist strap and software -User interface in 15 languages: Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish
