It is released in batches, so it might take a while until it reaches all users

Last week Sony Mobile confirmed plans to roll out the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for 2011 Xperia smartphone beginning this week.

As promised, the Japanese company has started the rollout of the update, but only two smartphones can now be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich, Xperia arc and Xperia neo.

However, it appears that Xperia pro, Xperia mini pro, Xperia mini and Xperia active will soon receive their updates later today or early tomorrow.

Unfortunately, there’s no word on Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich for Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman, though the handset maker promised the update would be deployed this week.

The Ice Cream Sandwich software update for Xperia arc and Xperia neo is released in batches, so it might take a while until it’s deployed to all units.

Sony released multiple ICS software for each Xperia phone, so before downloading one of the files, owners should make sure they have the correct SI (Sales Item) number.

The reason behind Sony’s decision to develop more than one version of ICS for its 2011 Xperia smartphone is the fact that the software might be different depending on product, country and operator.

The SI is found under the battery and is identified by an 8-digit number. Once the SI number is identified, users can go ahead and download the according version of Ice Cream Sandwich update for their smartphones.

Keep in mind that this software upgrade is Android 4.0.4, which is the latest version of Google’s mobile platform. Xperia arc S and Xperia neo V already received an Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich a few weeks ago, but they will be soon be updated to Android 4.0.4.

Hopefully, this version of Ice Cream Sandwich will make Xperia arc and Xperia neo smartphone faster and will offer users an improved experience. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
