Yesterday we saw Sony announce the Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z1 Compact smartphones will start getting the official Android 4.4 KitKat this week.

Apart from detailing some extra customizations and tweaks that are going to be noticeable with the arrival of the new build, Sony also slipped out another piece of interesting information.

The device manufacturer said it plans to roll out the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Xperia Tablet Z sometime around May.

Back in December, Sony rolled out the Android 4.3 update, but the new build did appear to have been causing some issues to adopters, in the form of screen flickering problems. As far as I know, the issue hasn't been resolved; yet, Sony seems to be keen on jumping in the Android 4.4 KitKat bandwagon.

Nevertheless, the announcement remains good news for owners of the year-old Xperia Tablet Z slate. Sony has recently launched its next-gen flagship model, the Xperia Z2 Tablet, at MWC 2014, shipping with Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box, so the new build will align the predecessor to the same standard.

Hopefully, the new soft won’t come riddled with the same problems as with the previous one, but at this point we can only wait and see what happens.
