The PlayStation Portable is still a popular console, entering its fourth year on the market as the sexiest handheld gaming system ever created. More than one skin-making company has rolled out "faces" for it, but the machine still looks better in one color. For those who haven't been keeping themselves updated, the company has recently released the PSP Slim /Lite and more recently, the Deep Red model.

At E3 2007, Sony disclosed information about a new version of the PSP. The new slimmer and lighter model would be released in September 2007, for both PAL and NTSC territories. The PSP Slim/Lite is 33% lighter (from 280g to 189g) and 19% thinner than the original PSP. The revamped system also sports TV Output and can be charged via USB, and double the onboard RAM (32MB to 64MB). It also caches UMD data in memory to decrease game loading times.

As far as the WLAN switch is concerned, it has been moved to the top (where the old IR Receiver was) to avoid accidental switching, while the speaker has been moved from the bottom of the unit to the face, since many gamers have reported poor audio quality and volume level with the old model.

The Deep Red PSP Slim model (PSPJ-20000) as i4u.com reports, "will start selling on December 13th for 22,800 yen (~$198). Sony will also offer it in a bundle with the DMB TV tuner (PSPJ-20001) for 29,800 yen (~$260.)," also mentioning that the company responsible for the most famous console brand has announced a new battery charger too, for both old and new PSP models: the PSP-330, according to the same source, goes out for "3,800 yen (~$33)."

Available colors for Sony's PSP Lite are:

metallic blue avender purple rose pink felicia blue black silver white (available in the United States too)

Unfortunately, the "Blood" Red PSP pictured to the upper left side of the article is going to be available only in Japan, but i4u.com says that you can get "one of the Japanese market only PSP consoles" easy, as Play-Asia is handling the exporting.
