Today, Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile has officially announced the availability of the source code for firmware version 14.4.A.0.108 that started to arrive only a few days ago on its Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact, and Xperia Z Ultra handsets.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the aforementioned software update was meant to provide users with a taste of the Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system, the latest flavor of the OS to have been released on consumer devices.

The same as before, the open-source archives for the new release can be found on Sony’s Developer Website. The download weighs 208MB.

However, the one thing that should be different this time is the fact that the kernel source for these devices should also be available in GitHub now.

Sony revealed only several days ago that it started to push the source code for its devices to this portal, a move that should save third-party developers a lot of time when they start building custom ROMs for these smartphones.

Those of you interested in having a look at the changes included in the new updates should head over to GitHub or to Sony’s website to download the new source code.
