Users would need to unlock their phones with Unlock boot loader service

Following the recent Android 4.0 ROM release for three Xperia smartphones, Sony has just announced the immediate availability of an additional beta ROM for Xperia PLAY.

According to Sony, the company got a lots of requests from Xperia PLAY owners that wished to try out the new features and improvements offered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

Given the fact that this beta ROM for Xperia PLAY is far from being perfect, Sony recommends that only advanced devs should download and install it.

Obviously, the harder part of making this ROM possible is full optimization for all games that are available for Xperia PLAY.

When it comes with this smartphone, the game offer is pretty big and a bit pretentious due to the special controls embedded onto the phone.

This is why Sony has worked with several game developers to optimize some of the most popular games available for Xperia PLAY to run smoother with Ice Cream Sandwich.

However, it appears that the Japanese company needs additional input from those who flash this ROM, on how the content and games work on the smartphone.

Sony claims it needs feedback on how the gaming experience works on Xperia PLAY with this ICS beta ROM, what games work well and if there is any “unexpected behaviour.”

Those who download and install this beta ROM for Xperia PLAY are encouraged to offer feedback in the following form:

Game title: - What was your general impression? - Did the buttons work properly? - Did the touch pads work properly? - Did you experience any lagging? - Any other feedback?

This beta ROM can be flashed on all Xperia PLAY units that that runs the latest 4.0.2.A.0.42 Xperia software release. In addition, devs would need to unlock their smartphones using Sony's “Unlock boot loader service.”
