The company announced the new sensor a while back

When one says Sony, many people might think of smartphone or tablets, but the company has built a name for itself in the photography department as well.

This became possible due to the fact that Sony continued to innovate in the field with new technologies that pushed the boundaries of photo taking.

If you follow photography news, you might know that Sony has recently announced its curved image sensor technology, so the rumor mill is prophesying that we might get to see the first camera equipped with the new sensor at Photokina 2014.

Sony Alpha Rumors has put together an overview of the announcements we might see come out of Sony at the event. According to them, there’s a 90% chance we will be greeted by the RX1s camera boasting a curved FF image sensor. On top of that, the unit is going to include a 35mm f/1.8 Zeiss lens too.

The source also mentions that the sensitivity of this camera will equal the performance of the highly hyped A7S.

The report assures us that if Sony doesn't launch the curved sensor camera on the grounds in Germany in a few weeks, it will most likely announce it in a few months.

The list doesn’t include any mention of the RX2, which was another possibility in the curved sensor scenario. Nor did we see anything about a 2/3-inch compact camera anywhere.

The curved sensor tech was unveiled at the 2014 VLSI Technology Symposium, and Sony had two variations of it to show, one being of the 2/3-inch type, while the other was a full-frame model.

After this major event, there was a lot of gossip in the press trying to figure out which cameras bundling this particular technology would be the first to arrive on the market. The rumor mill oscillated between the RX1s and RX2, but now it has become apparent that the RX1s will be the first device taking advantage of the tech.

Shortly after the curved sensor announcement, a mystery camera featuring a 22MP 2/3-inch sensor with a 20mm /1/2 lens made an appearance online. We didn’t know what its name was, but we were told the camera would arrive at Photokina 2014.

Nevertheless, it's not clear if the above scenario is really going to happen. Everything we told you so far is just pure speculation, but if we had to guess, we’d say the RX1s with a curved sensor FF and Zeiss 35mm f/1.8 lens is the one coming at the world’s largest photography event of the year.
