Today, Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile has made available for download the open source code for the Xperia Z1s smartphone that landed in the United States exclusively on the network of T-Mobile.

The files were published the very same day that Xperia Z1s landed in T-Mobile’s stores, after being up for grabs only online for the past week.

The open source code for Xperia Z1s (C6916) can be found on Sony Mobile’s website, with software version 14.2.C.0.159, weighing 347MB.

While most people out there might not find much use in said kernel source, developers will certainly appreciate its release, as it will allow them to come up with custom ROMS for the device.

What remains to be seen is how this will pan out for end users, given that Xperia Z1s comes with a locked bootloader, as Android Police notes in a recent post.
