Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile has made available for download a new open source archive for those interested in building apps for its Xperia Z Ultra smartphone.

The new file is based on firmware version 14.1.B.0.461, and can be downloaded today from this page on Sony’s developer website. It weighs 228MB.

It’s no surprise that Sony released the new Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean open source for the device, considering its track record on the matter.

The available download will provide devs with the possibility to build apps that can take better advantage of the smartphone’s hardware, while also enabling enthusiasts to learn more on the device itself.

Xperia Z Ultra arrived on shelves with a 6.4-inch screen, a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, 8MP back camera, and front camera for video calling.
