They were probably ravaged at the thought of Sony canceling their beloved game, which is why Sony's CEO was pretty vocal in trying to convince the media that The Last Guardian project was still alive.

After the said publication retracted the information regarding the canceling of The Last Guardian and issued an apology for not verifying the details from other sources as well, Sony's officials started to reiterate their support for the upcoming game.

The Last Guardian has been in development for seven long years and the game was only made official five years ago, but for the first time, Sony's title was MIA from E3 expo.

Nevertheless, Sony Computer Entertainment's President of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, said that the decision not to show the game at E3 2014 was unanimous and it was taken only a few days ahead of the start of the gaming expo.

He told Eurogamer that “there were a difficult couple of days before the show - I'm sure you noticed.” “I'm so happy it was retracted before the show happened,” continued Yoshida referring to the apology that the publication that started the rumor issued a few days ahead of E3 2014.

Yoshida has been questioned by lots of journalists about the status of The Last Guardian and the folks over at Polygon have received the following short statement:

“Lots of people tweeted me they were heartbroken by that news [prior to the show]. People are going through this roller coaster of emotions, and it's our fault for not releasing the game, yet. We owe a lot to those people, but we really don't want to release piecemeal information until we can say this is The Last Guardian - so we ask you to wait.”

Sony's CEO seems pretty firm when stating that his team is still working on The Last Guardian project: “It exists. The team is working hard on it. I was heartbroken when some article came out on some major site saying it was canceled.”

And to make things even more reassuring for fans of the game, Yoshida promised that the moment they decided to cancel The Last Guardian, they would come forward with an official statement.

“I will say this: when we cancel a title and it is something we have announced already, we'll say so. It's a highly anticipated title, we have to do so.”
