As Panasonic is scrapping parts of its TV business while reducing the rest, Sony is expanding, or at least increasing the variety of TVs while updating its existing collection.

Having introduced most of its new ideas during the 2013 edition of CES (Consumer Electronics Show), Sony is now implementing them.

It will take a while, since it won't be dumping everything in the lap of the consumer base.

Still, in order to make sure everyone knows what they can get and expect from the rest of the year, Sony has officially introduced its product line again.

First off, we have the 55-inch top of the line LED BRAVIA W900A, the first HDTV that uses Quantom Dot technology, made by QD Vision, Inc., and also known as Color IQTM. It has a price of $3,299 / 3,299 Euro.

It is "an advanced light emitting semiconductor technology" that enhances color gamut and the perception of depth. "Triluminos" is the marketing name.

Sony is also readying the KDL-W802A (55-inch and 47-inch) and KDL-W650A (32-inch), which come in $1,799 / 1,799 Euro (or more) and $799 / 799 Euro, respectively.

All of them have NFC remote control, MHL (mobile high-definition link) and Miracast streaming technology.

Then there are the R-Series, which lack these things but do get everything else: 3D support, Wi-Fi and RVIM plus the Sony Entertainment Network suite of apps (Hulu Plus, Netflix, etc.).

The R550A comes in 50-inch, 60-inch and 70-inch versions and has a starting price of $1,399 / 1,399 Euro.

"Sony continues to deliver pioneering technologies to consumers, providing superb picture quality with rich, vibrant images that bring TV to life," said Mike Lucas, senior vice president, Sony Electronics' home division.

"This year, Sony lends its storied audio technologies to the television line, along with such engaging experiences as OneTouch screen mirroring that let viewers instantly show content from their phones and other NFC-enabled devices. We invite consumers to go to stores and audition the brand, side by side with others, and let their own eyes and ears discover the Sony difference."
