Sony might not have yet delivered any tablet running the Android 3.0 operating system, but it did give a progress update on a certain pair of devices that should make their debut later this year.

Like so many other companies, Sony has every intention of entering the tablet segment, although it might end up doing so later than most, this Fall more specifically.

While Android 3.0 tablets have been coming out and prepared for summer launch, the outfit, instead, wants to wait until fall, as revealed in its newest press release.

Essentially, the so-called S1 and S2 tablets are in development and deliver “the perfect combination of hardware, content and network with seamless usability for a high-quality, engaging entertainment experience.”

The official press release was not that rich in details on the Tegra 2 devices, especially when it comes to the insides of the products. On the other hand, the overall capabilities and their designs were well enough depicted.

The S2, one might say, is the one that stands out more, what with its dual-screen design. More specifically, it is made of two 5.5-inch screens that can be used as a single display or individually, with one as an input solution, of sorts.

Meanwhile, the S1 has a 9.4-inch single screen and should be comfortable to play with for hours on end, thanks to its “off-center of gravity design” that grants more stability and a sense of lightness.

As a bonus for those that want entertainment, Sony will grant access to various network services, like the PlayStation Suite, which lets on play first-generation PlayStation Games. What's more, e-books will be downloadable.

All the while, the company promises that the content will be automatically and neatly organized for easy access.

Finally, one will be able to use the S1 as a universal remote control, while DLNA support will even allow for streaming content to large screen TVs.
