If you are in a search of a portable computer which needs to be carried around with you every day, then you have surely taken into account buying a laptop
as light as possible. If this is indeed your case, the Sony is the brand you're searching for. Indeed it is, with its carbon fiber body, Sony Vaio G series weights only 898 grams (about two pounds) making it the lightest laptop ever. I should point out though that adding an optical drive or a larger capacity battery will increase its overall weight, but by a small margin. There are several models in the Vaio G line, most of them being sold in Japan, all based on Ultra low-voltage Core Solo mobile CPUs.
Among other features, you get 512MB of Ram preinstalled, 802-11 a/b/g, Wi-Fi, motion sensor protection for the internal hard drive and a 12.1 inch LCD with 1024x768 native resolution. The VGN-G1LAP model is the lightest so far, using a 6 hour batter pack. If you want more battery time, then VGN-G1KAP is the next in line using a 12.5 hour battery pack and also a DVD-Writer unit. And all this at a weight of 1116 grams (just under 2.5 pounds). Both use ULV Core Solo 1.06GHz but later, a faster 1.2GHz Core Solo U1400 will follow. Sony targets mainly the Asian market, in an effort to satisfy increasing gadget demand. Expected price for the 1.06 ULV Core Solo is around $1400. Higher models are also expected to come out soon, but no other details are available.
