Sony Mobile is gearing up for the release of new firmware updates for some of its smartphones, and it has already received certification for some of the new builds, it seems.

Sony Xperia Z2 is one of these handsets, and firmware 17.1.A.2.55 has been already spotted at the PTCRB, it seems. The new software is based on the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system, and is expected to include only a small set of improvements inside.

Recently, firmware version 17.1.A.2.49 was also approved for this smartphone, which shows that Sony is determined to deliver improvements to the phone shortly.

Most probably, the new firmware version will be delivered to Xperia Z2 devices before the phone actually arrives on shelves later this month. As XperiaBlog notes, it is also possible that the firmware will emerge on the handset when firing it up for the first time.

At the same time Sony is preparing a new software refresh for the Xperia E1 and Xperia E1 dual handsets out there, and has already received the necessary certification for it, it seems.

The new firmware certified for the Xperia E1 comes with version 20.0.A.1.21 attached to it, while the Xperia E1 dual software was approved as build 20.0.B.0.83. Hopefully, specific info on what’s new inside the update will be provided soon, so stay tuned to learn the news.
