Sony Mobile is reportedly getting ready for the release of a new software update for its Xperia Z1 flagship smartphone, and it has already received the necessary approvals for it.

The software was spotted in a leaked screenshot as build 14.1.G.2.213, and is said to be destined for the HSPA+ version of the Xperia Z1, which features model number C6902.

Unfortunately, despite the fact that it marks a great jump from the current firmware released for the device, namely version 14.1.G.1.534, the new release is still based on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean (3.4.0 kernel).

According to XperiaBlog, the new update will arrive on devices with a series of performance enhancements, as well as with optimizations for the power consumption.

No info on when the new software will start arriving on devices has been provided as of now. Stay tuned for more on the matter.
