The update will begin rolling out to users as soon as next week

Recently, Sony Mobile has started to deliver the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system update to the owners of Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 Compact devices out there, but it seems that the company has slipped an audio bug inside the firmware.

Those who have already updated to the new OS version might have observed that their devices would sometimes direct audio to the internal speaker rather than to the external one.

As such, some people could not hear the audio notifications that should have been played loud. The same happened when it came to alarms, videos, and even calls, as XperiaBlog notes.

This resulted in a bad experience for all those affected, but it seems that Sony was quick to find the issue, and that a fix for it will be delivered to all users in the not too distant future.

According to a statement coming from Sony itself, a software update will be delivered to the owners of Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 Compact handsets who have already updated to KitKat, and the issue should be resolved.

The roll out of this update will kick off as soon as next week, and should reach all devices in a relative short period.

“Sony Mobile Communications would like to provide an update in response to reports around abnormal audio functionality and quality; that some users may be experiencing on their Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 Compact devices after upgrading to Android 4.4 KitKat,” the company reportedly said.

“We have identified this issue on some units of these models, and measures have been taken to swiftly deliver a solution for our users.”

“A fix for the issues will be included in a new software release that will start rolling out from next week (w/c 7/04), with exact availability and timing varying by operator and market,” Sony also said, a recent article on quellichetelefonano.it reads.

Although this issue might be seen as a deal breaker in some cases, the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update has also brought along a great deal of enhancements, and most people were actually happy to receive it.

Unfortunately, Sony has decided to release the firmware update without some of the improvements and new features that were made available in the Xperia Z2 smartphone, which runs under the Android 4.4.2 KitKat platform as well. Even so, the company might actually bring them to more users in the not too distant future.
