Video game hardware developer and publisher Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced that it plans to launch a tie-in for an upcoming Hindi-made science fiction-themed superhero-powered movie called Ra.One.

Trine Games, which is based in Mumbai, is handling development for the Ra.One video game, which will be launched on the PlayStation 3 as a downloadable title in the PS Store and on the older PlayStation 2.

Trine has previously worked on such games as Street Cricket Champions and Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods.

Shah Rukh Khan, who is the lead actor in the movie and a screenplay writer, has been working on the Ra.One video game story, which is set to be a prequel to the high-profile film.

Sony has not said exactly when the Ra.One video game is released or what the price point will be.

Atindriya Bose, who is the leader of the Indian division of Sony, has said, “We have always wanted to bring Bollywood IPs on PlayStation platform as the way of connecting to Indian audience.”

He added, “Ra.One has the right mix of action, environment and imagination that is required to make a good PlayStation game, and with Shah Rukh Khan's immense passion and understanding of PlayStation games, we have chanced upon a very unique opportunity of a great game with Indian IP.”

The executive has recently revealed that there are 6,750,000 PlayStation 2 home gaming consoles actively used in India, but that the nation only has about 91,000 users that have registered an account with the PlayStation Network.

India is a developing economy and the country with the second biggest population in the world, so Sony is naturally interested in making sure that as many of the potential gamers there are familiarized with its products and use them legally when their income level allows it.
