4K resolution displays (3840 x 2160 pixels) are expected to sell fairly well this year, despite what naysayers think, even though most of them won't be up for sale before half the year is out.

Sony wants to be involved in this market segment, which is why it has prepared two models for release in July.

One of them measures 55 inches in diagonal, while the other is a 65-inch version.

Both of them use, or will use, LCD technology and LED backlighting.

They will sell for something along the lines of $6,000 / 6,000 EUR (55-inch) and $8,500 / 8,500 EUR.

Sony expects its LCD TV share in the 46-inch or larger form factor to rise to 43% in 2013, at least in some markets. A big leap from 29% in 2012.

The UHD models won't affect that much, given how expensive and few they are, but every little bit helps.
