The PlayStation 4 now has an official launch date, and the team at Sony working on the next-gen console is looking past November, seeking to reassure players that after the big lineup of launch titles they will have a chance to pick up new content over the coming months.

Shuhei Yoshida, the leader of the Sony Worldwide Studios, tells Polygon that there’s a big discussion in his team about when they should announce what titles the PS4 will get in 2014.

He says, “It’s not like we’re saying we have to release everything at launch or we shouldn’t release everything at launch. They’re also going back and forth; they want to create a larger launch lineup, but at the same time, they want to create a supply of new titles with good pace. That’s a competing goal.”

For the executive, the support for the new platform from third parties is adequate, and Sony should focus on launching more games created by its own internal studios.

Yoshida adds, “I agree, if we talk about some new Naughty Dog game that’s coming, and show some teaser movie or something, people might like it —but that might not be the best presentation of the game they’re actually developing for PS4.”

Sony has said that Naughty Dog, Media Molecule, and Sony Santa Monica already have secret projects in the pipeline headed for the PlayStation 4, which might be disclosed soon after the device becomes available to gamers.

The team has also revealed extensive indie game support for its new device, and plenty of these titles will be offered soon after launch via the new PlayStation Plus service.

The PlayStation 4 will be released on November 15 in North America, and gamers in Australia, Europe, and Latin America will get it on November 29.

The Xbox One from Microsoft should also be out in November.
