Console maker Sony says that extensive contact with gamers was one of the driving forces behind the creation of the PlayStation 4 home console and that the company is constantly evaluating feedback coming from the fans.

Jack Tretton, the chief executive officer of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, is quoted by Polygon as saying that, “We spent a lot of time talking to consumers. We also spent a lot of time talking with the development community, asking what they wanted.”

He adds, “It’s a long, ongoing process. You’ve got to execute against a strategy. If you start second-guessing and looking over your shoulder, you open yourself up to mistakes. If you did your homework the consumer is going to respond.”

Tretton seems to be referring to Microsoft, the creators of the rival Xbox One, and to their decision to eliminate DRM measures that were initially announced as an integral part of the device.

The CEO once again explained that the price of the PlayStation 4 was decided well before the Microsoft official announcement.

The new Sony device is set to sell for 399 dollars or Euro, while the Xbox One will cost gamers 100 dollars or Euro more when they are finally available on store shelves.

Both platforms will have improved hardware and extensive media playing capabilities and although no clear dates have been announced, November is the target period for launch.

Since the PlayStation 4 was first shown, Sony has stressed that it wants to put the gamer at the center of the experience, with a lot of flexible policies and a variety of games available in the first six months of the platform’s life cycle.

The company also wants to make sure that players get instant access to their content and are able to access their games regardless of location using just a PlayStation Network identity.
