The team at Sony in charge of the PlayStation 4 home console has managed to sell no less than 14.8 million units of the device during the 12 months of the fiscal year 2015, which ended on March 31.

The number is impressive and comes from the latest financial report of the company, which shows that the pace for the new platform has not slowed down significantly since it was introduced in late 2013.

There are now more than 22.3 million PlayStation 4 home consoles in homes all over the world.

Sony is also saying that it is planning to improve sales in the coming months and that for fiscal 2016, which ends on March 31, 2016, it is aiming to deliver another 16 million units to gamers.

Solid sales of the PS4 are a good thing for the company because they are significant enough to cover the decrease in units sold registered by PlayStation Vita and the PSP.

Sony is also mentioning that the decline in video game sales for the PlayStation 3 has had a negative impact.

The company is also affected by the appreciation of the United States dollar, but it still managed to post better than expected revenue.

PlayStation 4 has a solid lead over the Xbox One

At the moment, the PlayStation 4 is enjoying a good run and despite price cuts and promotions from Microsoft, the Xbox One has failed to close the gap.

Both devices will have to deliver solid performances during the second half of the year and the crucial Christmas shopping season.

Sony has said that it has no plans to introduce a price cut at the moment because the PS4 offers a lot of quality experiences, but it might have a problem with exclusive titles in the coming months.

Microsoft has been already promoting Halo 5: Guardians as the biggest title of late 2015 and will seek to use the profile of the title to make the Xbox One the leader of the hardware sales chart.

Most analysts believe that the PlayStation 4 continues to be the most attractive device for gamers, but that small factors could have a big impact on console sales before the end of the year.
