14 DAY TRIAL // Just now, Sony has outed a new firmware targeted at its PlayStation 3 console, namely version 4.53, which can be installed either through the System Update feature (wirelessly), or manually using any of the supported storage media drives.
Sony’s newly released update improves the PS3’s system stability and network services, renames “PlayStation Network” to “PSNSM,” and gives users the ability to create a group of players who can see their trophies (you can also specify which game trophies to be shown).
In addition to that, the “Closed Captions Settings” option has been added under the Settings → Video Settings menu, and if you set “Display Closed Captions as Specified by Content” to “Off,” you can adjust advanced settings for the display method.
As for installing the firmware, if the console benefits from an Internet connection, then go to Settings → System Update → Update via Internet, and wait until the PS3 finds the latest version. When it does, press the “X” button to start downloading, and follow the on-screen instructions to install the update.
However, if no Internet access is available, then, on a supported storage device, create a PS3 folder, and an “UPDATE” one within it, copy the downloadable firmware file into the “UPDATE” folder, and insert the storage device into the PS3 (make sure it’s turned off).
Now, power on the console, go to Settings → System Update → Update via Storage Media, wait for the PS3 to find the update, and when it does, press the “X” button, and follow the instructions displayed to complete the upgrade.
As a recommendation for both methods, after the firmware has been installed, it would be a good idea to go to Settings → System Settings → System Information → System Software, and check to see if the version number reads 4.53.
