The digital camera sensor market is clearly dominated by Sony, and the Nippon electronics maker is planning to get an even bigger share by continuously improving its imaging sensors.

Japanese website Egami has recently spotted a new patent filed by Sony that presents a new nano-carbon CCD image sensor that will improve dynamic range and transmission. According to this patent, each layer of the sensor will have an additional nano-carbon layer that will help improve overall image quality.

Recently, Sony bought a chip making factory in Tsuruoka, Japan in order to expand its current CMOS sensor production, from 60,000 wafers per month to around 75,000, and further consolidate its current market share.

In addition to that, the company is rumored to present the NEX6/7 successor on February 12, in a press conference that will precede the official opening of the CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show in Yokohama, Japan.
