Sony supplied the Consumer Electronics Show with two new laptop series of ultramobile personal computers. The product lineup is made up of the stylish, high-performance VAIO S laptop line and the lightweight VAIO Y family. Both lines use the same 13.3-inch LED display, but have differing internal specifications. The Vaio S family focuses on performance, whereas the Vaio Y laptops are made ultra-light for comfortable and on-the-go management of end-users' digital life.

The VAIO Y laptops make multimedia tasks “beautifully easy.” The laptops are powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor SU7300 and have up to 4GB of RAM and 320GB Serial ATA storage. They are built with the Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD and have a 33.8cm (13.3”) VAIO Display (1366x768) with LED backlight.

The product is excellent for taking notes, blogging, web browsing and other tasks, especially thanks to the comfortable, full-pitch keyboard and the multi-gesture touchpad. The entire configuration weighs only 1.8kg and may last for nine whole hours on battery power. In addition, the notebook's connectivity options include WLAN 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, with I/O being represented by HDMI and a MOTION EYE camera.

The VAIO S laptop line is more performance oriented, while being a “compelling blend of mobility and performance that’s perfect for doing better business.” The laptop weighs only 2kg with battery and is packaged in light magnesium alloy. The configuration is based on the power-efficient Intel Core i5-520M 2.4GHz with the Intel Turbo Boost Technology (max. 2.93 GHz) and employs 4GB DDR3, 500GB HDD and the high-performance NVIDIA GeForce 310M graphics with 512MB GDDR3 VRAM (on select models). As such, the machine will effortlessly cope with movies, games, video presentations and any other type of computing-intensive or graphic-heavy tasks. Connectivity may be achieved via WLAN 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR.

The VAIO S laptops have some design features that improve the usability, such as keyboard backlighting, a light sensor and HDD data protection. The product also features three USB ports and an HDMI output for a full-HD media enjoyment.

Select models in both lines may feature VAIO Everywair 3G mobile broadband, which will enable an on-the-go connectivity even in the absence of a Wi-Fi hotspot. All models run the Genuine Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) OS and will become available at the end of the month. Unfortunately, the press release did not give any pricing details.
