Sony has announced that Brazil will be the second country in Latin America with an official PlayStation Store, after Mexico, as the Japanese company finally extended support for the online service to the South American country.

Sony has been bringing its PlayStation Network and Store to many countries in order to further broaden the appeal of the PlayStation 3 home console, but, as of yet, there are still many territories that can't access the store unless owners lie about their home country.

Brazilians are now spared by this problem, as Sony Latin America announced that the country is finally getting its own dedicated PlayStation Store, with lots of special content.

"Today, Brazil becomes the second country in Latin America to enjoy digital content from PlayStation Network with the launch of PlayStation Store on the PS3," said Mark Stanely, general manager Sony Latin America.

"Starting today, PS3 users will gain access to the PlayStation Store to purchase and download nearly 200 pieces of digital content, including games, demos and PSone Classics, all without leaving the comfort of the living room couch."

The store is available either in regular English or Brazilian Portuguese, and payments can be made with credit cards in the local currency of Brazilian Real, while pre-paid cards will soon be available for purchase in retail stores.

Brazilian PlayStation 3 owners will also be able to enjoy their local PlayStation Blog, which will keep them up to date with all the latest news and new releases that will be deployed onto the PlayStation Store each week.

"New content will be added to the PlayStation Store weekly, beginning on August 2, including the addition of more downloadable PSP titles, so check back regularly," Stanley added.

Brazil is one of the largest countries in the world and its people are avid gamers, even if many of them choose not so legal ways to indulge in their hobby, with piracy still being rampant in South America. Hopefully, with the release of the PlayStation Store in Brazil, gamers will embrace the proper way to play.
