Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile has finally made the Xperia Z Ultra smartphone official in India today, after the handset arrived on shelves in the country last week.

The new mobile phone was announced with a price tag of Rs. 46,990 ($788 / €593), yet it is currently up for sale at Rs. 44,990 ($754 / €568).

Sony’s Xperia Z Ultra is set to become available across India as of August 2, and will be up for purchase in three color flavors, namely black, white, and purple.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Xperia Z Ultra was made official last month with a 6.4-inch full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) Triluminos Display with X-Reality for Mobiles, as well as with a 2.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor packed inside.

Furthermore, the new device sports 2GB of RAM inside, along with 16GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

On the back, Sony Xperia Z Ultra sports an 8-megapixel photo snapper, with Exmos RS sensor, HDR photos & videos, and support for full HD video recording. There is also a 2MP camera on the front, great for making video calls while on the go.

The mobile phone is only 6.5mm thick and weighs 212 grams, while featuring IP55 / IP58 rating for dust and water resistance.

The specifications list of the handset also includes G HSPA+, Wi-Fi 820.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS/ GLONASS, and NFC connectivity, 3.5mm audio jack and FM Radio with RDS, and a 3050mAh Battery.

Xperia Z Ultra arrives on shelves with Google’s Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system loaded on top, supports pen input with stylus, and also packs a variety of applications coming from Sony themselves. Gameloft’s Asphalt 7 game also comes pre-loaded on the smartphone, fonearena reports.
