There may be hope for those who don't own an Xperia phone

Sony confirmed last week that only Xperia Z devices would receive Android 5.0 Lollipop update, which attracted the wrath of the rest of the fans owning non-Xperia Z phones.

The Japanese company launched quite a few mid-range non-Xperia Z devices last year and those who purchased them were hoping to get Android updates for at least one year and a half.

Fast forward less than one year and Sony announces that only Xperia Z devices will receive Android 5.0 Lollipop, which is disappointing for lots of customers, to say the least.

Smartphones like Xperia C3, E1, E3, M2, M2 Aqua, T2 Ultra and T3 won't be getting Android 5.0 Lollipop if we are to believe Sony's previous statement that was pretty clear on this one: “we can advise that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update is going to be released for the entire Xperia Z series only, we do apologise.”

As soon as the news made headlines, many Sony fans who own non-Xperia Z devices started to complain on various forums, which probably made the Japanese company reconsider its previous statement.

If you are one of the many Sony customers who own a non-Xperia Z device, then keep in mind that it's likely these smartphones may not receive Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Hopefully, Sony will release an official statement soon

However, in the last couple of days, the same Twitter account that responded to previous inquires about Android 5.0 Lollipop for devices like Xperia C3, E1 and others, now says that it can't comment on any future upgrades for these non-Xperia phones.

Those who express their feelings about Sony's previous statement on Lollipop non-Xperia devices are now advised to stay tuned for the company's blog for the latest information.

Also, Sony says it can't yet comment on upgrades for further products at this time, so there might be a chance for those who own non-Xperia Z devices to receive Android 5.0 Lollipop.

In any case, an official statement from Sony concerning upgrades for non-Xperia Z devices would clarify the situation for everyone. It's unclear, though, why the Japanese company doesn't offer one yet.
