The price and launch date of Sony's Next Generation Portable, aka the PSP2, have supposedly been leaked after a screenshot of GameStop's internal database ended up on the web.

Sony impressed quite a lot of people a few weeks ago when it finally unveiled its next portable console, the Next Generation Portable, previously known as the PSP2.

Sadly for its fans, the company didn't reveal any details about price or the actual release date of the new device, leaving the door wide open for speculations.

Now, thanks to a leak at GameStop, we may have a clue about the availability of the Next Generation Portable.

In the screenshot above, picked up by website mukyou, we see that the NGP is scheduled for a release on January 1, 2012, with a price of $299.

Before you start circling the date in your calendar and wondering whether to spend New Year's Eve at a GameStop store, be warned that the date and price may just be there as placeholders, until Sony gives an official announcement.

A release on the first day of the year doesn't seem too likely, but a price of $299 may actually come true.

Sony previously said that it hadn't set the price of the Next Generation Portable, but that it would be quite affordable.

Considering the Nintendo 3DS is priced at $250 and has glasses-free 3D technology, a price within that region for the NGP is pretty much forced upon them.

Sony also revealed a few weeks ago that a global release was unlikely, but that at least one territory would get the new device before the end of the year, Japan being the most obvious candidate.

Neither Sony nor GameStop commented on the leak, so it's best to take the screenshot above with a big grain of salt, and just wait until the Japanese company is ready to present more details about the Next Generation Portable.
