Word has it Sony is planning to pull the plug on its NEX-5T mirrorless camera

Sony’s latest mirrorless camera bears the name NEX-5T and pertains to the NEX-5 family. Sadly, the device remains one of the few Sony mirrorless products from the NEX lineup in existence.

The camera is a decent min-range offering targeted at people just getting started with mirrorless photography. Sadly, it appears the birthing company is considering discontinuing the product.

The NEX-5T was launched back in 2013, but now SonyAlphaRumors reports having heard from several sources who seem to have insider information claiming the Sony NEX-5T will be discontinued this summer.

So if you still want to get the camera, you’ll have to act quick, because in a few short months the device will disappear from all retail locations, forever.

We’re not giving any reasons why Sony would want to send the device into camera paradise so soon, but you should also bear in mind that this information is still in its rumor phase. The source fails to note whether we can expect a successor for the NEX-5T, which would make sense.

On the other hand, Sony might be looking to annul the entire NEX line-up, in order to focus on its line of Alpha cameras instead, like the recent Sony A6000.

In any case, Sony hasn't announced anything official just yet, so until the company does so, we won’t know anything for sure.
