This is not the first time we hear about Sony planning to enter the Windows Phone market with its own device, so the following rumor should not surprise anyone familiar with the subject.

Although Digitimes doesn’t have a positive record when it comes to rumors, at least we can consider it another source confirming Sony’s intentions to bring its own Windows Phone device into the market.

It appears that Sony Mobile and ODM Compal Communications have already inked a partnership for the manufacture of 1-2 Windows Phone models. The companies are still considering the manufacture of 2-3 additional devices, but nothing has been decided yet.

According to Digitmes, Sony Mobile plans to release its Windows Phone device(s) through multiple major carriers in the United States. Sony’s Windows Phone handsets will also be available for purchase in Japan, a country where Microsoft’s platform still has a very low market share.

There’s no telling when exactly Sony will unveil its first Windows Phone handsets, but the best move would be to make them official at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) or Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014. Stay tuned for more info on the matter.
