Owners of Sony Xperia devices out there can now take advantage of a new personalization option, in the form of “Xperia Themes,” available as part of the recently released Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS upgrade.

The new enhancement was released to Xperia users as a native Sony feature, providing them with the possibility to customize their devices in a variety of creative ways.

According to a recent post on the Sony Mobile Blog, the release of Xperia Themes is the latest effort in the company’s pursuit to provide users with unique experiences, and it is fueled by the openness of Android, which allows users to make their devices truly custom and personal.

According to Andreas Schön, one of the people behind “Xperia Themes,” the feature is meant to allow users to express their personality, offering them the option to skin up to 280 assets on their handsets, such as navigation bar, icons, and folders.

He also explains that themes were a very popular option on Sony’s feature phones several years ago, and that the company has decided to bring them back to the spotlight on Android devices.

“Previously you needed to download and install 3rd party home launchers – a pretty complex experience for most users,” Andreas Schön explains.

“With Xperia Themes, we’ve integrated the experience seamlessly in the device, so you get a completely new look, but also the same easy and intuitive Xperia navigation experience after installing.”

Moving forth, Xperia users will see more appealing themes being released to them through Sony Select and Google Play. Thus, the mobile phone maker wants to ensure that one could find something to fit every style, mood, and taste.

Apparently, owners of Xperia devices are pleased with the feature, and Sony is also looking to add some more apps and assets that can be customized.

With Xperia Themes, users can look no further when it comes to finding great means to make their phones as personal as they like, especially since there are hundreds of graphical elements that allow customizations through Xperia Themes.

“Starting from the most obvious UI elements like the wallpaper for the home screen and lock screen, down to the smallest components like navigation bar icons, checkboxes, switches, sliders and buttons,” the aforementioned blog post explains.

Future software updates from Sony Mobile will increase the number of elements and applications that can be skinned through Xperia Themes, yet we’ll have to wait for them to arrive to learn more on the matter. To grab themes for their devices, users should search for them in the Google Play store.
