YouTube, the leader of the online video sharing services, will get a new rival soon as the giant Sony prepares a similar product that will target the same segment of users.
The new solution, codenamed eyeVio, is meant to represent an improved YouTube that will fight against copyright infringement cases since its release date. Reuters reported today that the company wants to release the video sharing service on Friday, a move that will represent the Sony quiet software revolution as the company' CEO Howard Stringer sustained. The firm intends to monitor all the content uploaded to the page because it is extremely important to avoid the problems encountered by the Mountain View-based company Google.

Sony is not the first company that announces its plans to challenge YouTube and attract the same category of users. However, the recently acquired Google product managed to remain the leader and is often improved with new channels able to compete with the services released by other Internet companies. The best example is GodTube, a YouTube-like product that allows users to upload, share and comment clips, being based on a single type of content. GodTube contains only Church-related clips and aims to lure Christians to its page by offering a lot of lectures and preaches. As a reply, YouTube designed a new channel to attract bishops and is currently offering the same type of content as GodTube.

Some time ago, when Google was attacked by Viacom, Microsoft and News Corp announced their plans to develop the most powerful rival for the search giant's product. However, YouTube managed to resist in the battle with the MTV owner and sustained its number of visitors was boosted just after the Viacom removal was started.
