Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile has released a new app meant to provide users with the possibility to easily transfer info from an old device to a new Xperia smartphone.

The application was released with support for smartphones running under Android 2.1 or newer, regardless of their maker (Samsung, HTC, Sony, etc.).

With this app, users will be able to transfer data such as contacts, calendar, messages (both SMS and MMS), music, photos, and videos. However, Sony notes that data synced with online services will not be transferred via this app.

“This app is part of the Xperia Transfer service offered by our Sony PC Companion (PC) and Sony Bridge for Mac (Mac) and should be used in conjunction,” the company announced.

You can find the new Xperia Transfer app for Android in the Google Play store. Users can download Sony PC Companion from Softpedia.
