Motion sensitive technologies are becoming the biggest trend these days, as after Nintendo made them extremely popular thanks to its Wii console that came with its own personal technologies, these are now being adapted by both Microsoft and Sony in the form of new projects.

With Microsoft boasting about its Project Natal being the best thing in gaming and with Nintendo not seeming to be worried about its rivals, Sony has recently talked about the new technology and how it feels about its impact on the market.

The president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, Andrew House, sat down with GamesIndustry and revealed that he wasn't extremely worried about the competition, largely because the PlayStation 3 already had a lot of aces up its sleeve, and that the motion sensitive technology would be another good card for the big black console.

“I'm not unduly worried and I think the reason for that is that we've done a very good job with the PlayStation 3 as an overall value proposition without any motion control technology,” revealed House. “This becomes additive to what is already an incredibly powerful device. It gives a new aspect to the experience. We went into this show with a tremendous software line-up, strong confidence in the platform's power and the kind of experiences that are only possible on PlayStation. This gives us one more extension to that, it helps us build the business in a different direction.”

House also talked about how the introduction of this new technology would offer a boost in the platform's scheduled ten-year life cycle. “That's one of the essentials. But the PlayStation 3 is also one of the best Blu-ray players around for high-definition movies and that almost gets lost in the mix. That gives it an enormous sense of longevity, people want the best if they are buying into high-definition entertainment from a television standpoint or from a movie standpoint. That's an inherently long lifecycle and it helps bolster the traditional gaming lifecycle as well.”
