Sony Pictures is working on a new movie that’s set to chronicle the battle between SEGA and Nintendo to dominate the home console market during the 1990s, with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg set to write and direct the feature.

The film is based on a book called Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo, and the Battle that Defined a Generation and it is designed to include both comedic and dramatic elements.

A documentary based on the same source material will also be created, with the pair handling producing duties, according to Book Trade.

At the moment, SEGA is no longer a part of the video game hardware market and is focused on creating titles for Japanese and Western audiences. Meanwhile, Nintendo has been one of the most successful companies on the market after the launch of the Wii and now needs to deal with the problems of the Wii U successor.

Today the video game market is dominated by the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony.

The movie based on Console Wars will probably dramatize many elements of the book and those who want to get access to the history are probably best served by reading the actual book.
