It hopes to increase mobile sales, at least, by approaching Chinese companies

Touch screens represent a technology that isn't likely to lose adopters any time soon, despite the apparent popularity of motion tracking systems. Sony wants to be on top of things here.

The company is piling up touch panel orders, according to the companies that actually make said panels.

Smartphones are one area where those panels are likely to be used, and Sony is even courting China-based telecom makers and supply chains for that.

There are many other things where they could be used though, not the least of which are tablets.

Even high-tech cameras are starting to use touch control panels now, especially those with large preview screens. Laptops go without saying too.

Sony's increase in touch panel orders is being mirrored by other companies, so 2014 should be a good year for many manufacturers, especially those in Taiwan.
